How about a stainless steel look? Measure the length and width of the area for your back splash and go to home depot and purchase aluminum flashing in the size you need.
You can cut it with heavy duty sheers and apply with contact cement. Be careful of the sharp edges and wear gloves when doing this.

My back splash was so rough from taking off tile I simply got some of that spray paint that is multi colored speckled and sprayed it on as an in between thing till I could afford better.
Two years now and I think it looks great.
Mine is the grey/black/white color.
Get it at Wal Mart.
